Warden Stephen Curry is an extremely skilful American professional basketball player. He plies his trade with the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association in the states. Stephen Curry was born to Sonya and Dell Curry on 14th March 1988 in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in Charlotte, North Caroline with his father who played for Cleveland Cavaliers at the time. Though the family also briefly lived in Toronto, Ontario when the father, joined Toronto Raptors where he ended his basketball career.

Curry, together with his younger brother, managed to horn their basketball skills during their growing days especially as their father took them along for games. Many times, they are allowed to warm up with the Hornets. Like Curry, his younger brother, Seth is also doing very well as an NBA player.

Today, many people consider Curry as the greatest shooter in the history of NBA. While growing up, he was a part of the Davidson College basketball team. While there, he bagged the Southern Conference Player of the year twice. He also had an all-time scoring record for Davidson and Southern Conference till date.


During his father’s sting with the Toronto Raptors in Toronto, Curry also played for the Queensway Christian College Boys’ Basketball team. After his father’s basketball career and return to Charlotte, Curry joined Charlotte Christian School and later attended Davidson College.


Stephen Curry is known to be outspoken about his Christian faith. In his MVP speech, he openly declared his faith in Jesus Christ and said he wish his games and actions on the courts represent the tenets of his faith. The inscription (4:13) on his famous “Curry One” basketball shoes is a reference to Philippians 4:13 and he also bears a tattoo of 1Corinthian 13:8 on his wrist.

Curry got married to his longtime girlfriend, Ayesha Alexander on the 30th July 2011 and they both have two girls: Riley and Ryan. Besides Seth, Curry also has a younger sister who plays volleyball at Elon University.

Curry has been known to be involved in other positive moves outside of basketball. He is notable for his involvement in the fights against the spread of malaria. In 2012, he started a trend where he donates three insecticide-treated mosquito nets whenever he bagged a 3-pointer on the court. The donations went to the United Nations Foundation’s campaign to combat Malaria across the world.



Curry Stephen stands at 6 feet and 3 inches and weighs 190 pounds. His voyage into basketball started while he was a child. It is undisputable that his father’s basketball career influenced and motivated his choice. But even more, he was said to have been allowed to play with Hornets, his father’s colleagues, for warm-ups whenever he followed him to the games.

Curry started playing professionally while he was in school. He was known to be active in basketball while in Queensway Christian College; Charlotte Christian School and while in Davidson College. At Charlotte, he led the school team to three conference titles and also had three playoff appearances. He started becoming famous and popular during his sting with the college basketball team in Davidson.

Before ever touching a ball at Davidson, the school’s basketball head coach was reported to have informed participants in the University’s alumni’s event that Stephen Curry is a player to watch out for.


Expectedly, Curry went on to make a mockery of the freshmen’s record at the school and rounded up his first season with incredible statistics. Same season, he led the freshmen’s scoring records and was only behind Kevin Durant at the time. So, at Curry became the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, SoCon Tournament MVP, got selected to the SoCon All-tournament team and had his name on the honourable list in Sport Illustrated All-Mid-Major at the end of his freshman season.

He also had the opportunity to be a part of the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship and went on to help the USA bag a silver medal at the Championship.

Curry continued his amazing statistics and performances throughout his time at Davidson and helped them to many records and laurels. In 2008, he also had a nomination for an ESPY in the Breakthrough Player of the Year category.
Curry had his only game miss during his college career in February 2009 when he sat out the game against The Citadel due to an injury he sustained while playing against Furman about four days earlier. But he still went on to become Davidson’s all-time leading scorer with 34 points when he played against the Georgia Southern on February 28 of the same year.

The points he had during the game also gave him the 2,488 points of his career putting him ahead of the record holder, John Gerdy. Though Curry stopped his education at the Davidson in his senior year, he still plans to earn his degree eventually.

Curry joined Golden State Warriors in 2009 after leaving Davidson team. Again, he quickly showed his skills and brilliance at the new club.

His first game showed the flashes of his brilliance when he raked in 14 points and had 7 startling assist to himself. He ended the season on an average of 17.5 points and 5.9 assists per game and finished the season with his name on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Curry joined the United States National Team at the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He was called to the senior squad in 2010 and had a couple of minutes at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The USA won the gold at the tournament. But he was more involved in 2014 where the USA had an unbeaten run again to win the tournament again.
However, he couldn’t make the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and withdrew from the games due to ankle and knee problems.


Curry has a countless number of nominations and awards, some of which have been mentioned earlier in this work.

At the NBA, he has won the championship, Most Valuable Player for 2015 and 2016, NBA All-Star for 2014 in 2017, NBA Scoring leader in 2016, 3-point field goal leader for 2013 to 2016, Steals leader in 2016 and NBA Skills Challenge Champion for 2011 among many others.

He also holds many records, nominations and recognition from NCAA, Davidson College and other award issuing bodies.
