Since its advent in 2011, 5 years ago, Snapchat has not only become very popular, it’s gradually becoming one of the most creative and fastest growing social media tools today. Indeed, it is arguably the most popular video and story-telling application in the world today.
Besides the avalanche of fun-seeking youths thronging to Snapchat, celebrities and world leading companies are currently finding supports for their brands and businesses on Snapchat. And, the results are remarkable.
In 2016 only, the transformation on Snapchat is has been exceptional. The app has reached over 40% of the Americans between the ages of 18 to 34. There are well over 100 million daily Snapchatters viewing OVER 10 BILLION video per day! According to Snapchat’s management, that’s “more than 350% increase” from 2015.
That’s not all. The creativity, fun, flexible picture and video editing tools among others are some of the many side attractions that keep Snapchatters glued to the social platforms like no other site.
But, with all these trends and amazing figures, you might get dazed to know there are still people on the internet that know close to nothing about Snapchat. But calm down. Before you get hysteric, you need to know that one of your favourite celebrities falls into this group. Jay-Z is practically a novice on Snapchat!
Let me hope that didn’t hit you too badly. Get yourself together, life goes on.
Usher Exposed Jay-Z’s Ignorance of Snapchat
To be fair to Jay-Z and his wife, neither of them has lived up to expectation on the social media. While Jay-Z and his superstar wife have a massive following on Facebook and Instagram, they’ve constantly failed to engage their fans as much as it would have been required. As at today, the 47 years old commands over 1.6 million followers on Facebook while his superstar wife has social media followership in tens of millions but with a clearly contained engagement with their fans.
So, it is not a surprise that Jay-Z looked completely lost when he was told about Snapchat at the Super Bowl 50.
During the February 7, 2016 event, Usher was taking a 10-second video recording of Jay-Z and Beyonce when the couple posed rather for a photo shoot.
“It’s a video on Snapchat!” he tried to put them in line but that didn’t seem to make any difference to Jay-Z. Indeed, he looked even more confused after.
“I don’t even know what that means!” Jay-Z snapped backed looking like he just saw a ghost.
It’s painful that both Jay-Z and his creative pop-superstar wife are missing on Snapchat. So much rich and creative contents that could have been shared with their fans are unfortunately wasting away.
Though some fans believe Beyonce is keeping a secret Snapchat page which we hope will be made public in no distant time. We can’t wait!
Jay-Z Twisted Views of the Social Media
If only someone can sit Jay-Z down and explain the financial values of his celebrated status on the social media plus the priceless privilege to intimately relate with his fans, he will definitely be better for it.
During his rants with his “haters” on the social media, Meek Hills unwittingly exposed Jay-Z’s long suspected views of the social media. Jay-Z believes that the social media world is fake only meant for people that aren’t real and clearly put on a managed identity for the world to see.
In Meek Hills words, “Jayz once told me this social media world was created for people that wouldn’t even speak if they wasn’t present. He also said you can’t speak truth on here because this is the fake people world and they gone hate you for that.”
“…people are in love with this lifestyle more than people!” he concluded.
It is easy to believe Meek Hills’ words about Jay Z considering his poor social media escapades in the past.
For instance, he joined Instagram sometimes ago and posted a birthday tribute to legendary Michael Jackson only to turn around and delete the page after getting 100,000 followers in just about 14 hours. That’s rather too awkward for a celebrity of his status.
He hardly tweets and, despite having a huge following on Facebook, the number of his Grammy awards is yet to be updated as at today, 7th December 2016.
I suspect he has a terrible phobia for the social media.
Born on December 4, 1969, Shawn Corey Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z is one of the most successful pop stars alive today. Jay-Z, or just Jay Z, is an American popular pop-star with a range of investment and businesses and a mouth-watering number of music awards and recognitions.
In 2014, Forbes recorded that Jay-Z is worth about 520 million dollars. His over 100 million record sales make him one of the best selling artistes of all time bringing in 21 Grammy Awards along the line. Although records on his official Facebook handle, which is likely yet to be updated, put the number at 19 Grammy Awards. He has worked with several successful pop-star artistes.
His businesses and investments span across successful brands including clothing line, Rocawear. He is a co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, has an investment in 40/40 Club Sports bar, works as a certified NBA and MLB sports agent and he’s the founder of Roc Nation, an entertainment outfit among others. He is also a philanthropist.
In 2008, he had a moderate wedding with one of his protégés, Beyonce and they have a daughter named Blue Ivy in January 2012.
With his huge success so far as a celebrity, as since on his profile above, it is a shame that Jay-Z isn’t on Snapchat. He has definitely deprived many of his fans the chance to enjoy the fascinating clips and off-stage relationship with his most celebrated wife, Beyonce.
We can only hope Jay-Z has gone through his much-needed lessons on Snapchat since the February gaffe. Even more, we hope he’s coming on with his family in no distant time.
